Summary of Major Rule Amendments 2010

This list is a summary of the major rule changes to be implemented in the 2010 rule book

It is not the complete list of rule changes which will be published in full in the rule book.

G2.1.1 Preliminary entries will close

 

14 days before the area qualifier or 30 June, whichever is earlier. Entries must be received by the BRC office by this date. No late entries will be accepted. If the area qualifier has to be postponed for more than 21 days then entries can be reopened. A rearranged qualifier must run before 30 June.

G9.3

 

In the interest of horse welfare BRC will not allow horses or ponies to be kept on lorries, horseboxes or trailers overnight at any BRC competition.

G11.1 Reserves must be named on the championship entry form in order that eligibility can be checked. Up to

 

eight reserves may be named, however only two may be substituted into a team.

G11.1 Reserves for the FOH and Horse Trials must have

 

completed a cross country course of a comparable standard within the previous year. This must be certified by a club official.

G16.2 BRC reserve the right to disqualify any club or team for

 

unsporting behaviour to include witnessed purposeful outside assistance.

D1.1.3 Horses and ponies downgraded under British Dressage rules

 

where a fee has been paid will not be able to compete in BRC competitions within 6 months of being downgraded.

DTM tests will take place in a 20m x 60m arena at the Championships.

HX2.4 The number of cross country

 

jumping efforts increased to 15 – 28.

hard hats in line with rule G22.2 are mandatory and must be worn during dress rehearsals, judging phases and the performance.

Gloves must be worn. It is no longer necessary to wear white or light coloured gloves.

Military or service uniforms may be worn in BRC competitions. BRC rules regarding whips and spurs will still apply.

Appendix 8 Maximum height of novice cross country courses to be

 

90cm.

New Rule No member will be allowed to smoke whilst mounted at any BRC competition.

New Rule Blood – If blood is seen anywhere on the horse during riding in or during the dressage test or riding test the rider should be stopped, informed and withdrawn from the competition. The blood may or may not relate to abuse but it indicates a problem which requires attention and which the rider should know about.

New Rule Ear Covers / Fly fringes are permitted during riding in and the competition for dressage tests and riding tests. The ear cover / fly fringe should be discreet, not brightly covered and not cover the horses eyes. Ear plugs are not permitted.

New Rule Medical Arm Bands must be worn on the rider’s arm. They must not be worn on the rider’s leg.
