Helena Varley I have loved horses for as long as I can remember and have been fortunate enough to own and ride them for some years. (I had a grandfather who drove a very high spirited Hackney mare called Duchess)

I was a Pony Club mum to two children who rode competitively and reasonably successfully and I helped to produce the ponies/horses and keep them fit.

I no longer own a horse but am lucky enough to ride regularly horses belonging to a friend.

I have been a member of TVRC for many years.

Lara Booth I’m delighted to be able to step into Jane Gibbs shoes and carry on her good work as the new SJ Team Manager for TVRC. I shall endeavour to build on the successes she has orchestrated over the years and continue to ensure that the SJ team becomes a force to contend with!

For those who do not know me I have been a TVRC member for circa 18 months. I have a 6 year old bay warmblood, Sir Afron, who I’ve had for just over a year now and who is turning out to be a great RC allrounder for me. He was bred to SJ so that will be our focus for winter 2005 and ensure I am good enough to choose for one of the teams (he has been prone to 4 or 8 fault-itis in the past!).

I will be collecting from Jane Gibbs all her lists of previously interested people for the SJ teams and looking to revisit that with you all. I am keen to continue the very friendly spirit that currently exists within the teams whilst working on ensuring a strong 1st team, 2nd team, reserves etc… We want to win – who can resist a red ribbon! – and hence a 1st team, but I will equally be looking to ensure that we can have regular training programmes to encourage people up through the "ranks".

If you are interested in being part of the SJ teams then please email or call me. Or if you have suggestions based on your past experiences, I’d be delighted to hear from you

Lucy Savage The Horse Trials teams have just completed a fabulous year - the Novice team won the area qualifier and competed at the Nationals, we ran our first Intermediate team with promising results and qualified for the London and South East Finals. The Festival of the Hunter has been postponed but we have a strong team waiting to go - probably in the spring.

I have belonged to the riding club for 5 years now and have come through the levels with Sparks, my lovely but rather inconsistent mare.

5 years ago we were doing pole s to 2ft lessons and getting eliminated in minimus x-country. Since then we have competed in all the dressage, SJ, XC and 1DE teams with mixed results and finally got the courage to affiliate to British Eventing last year. I have been through all the ups and downs with the teams, competing at Lincoln and being eliminated at fence 3 at the qualifiers!

This coming year there are two main 1DE competitions – the Riding Club area qualifier in June and the London and South East in July. Then in the Spring/Autumn there is the Festival of the Hunter - a cross-country only competition. Leading up to this I am planning a couple of local team competitions and training in all 3 disciplines.

The heights/standards for the classes are:

Novice Class: dressage at Prelim level and jumping to 85cm (2ft 9)

Intermediate: dressage to Novice level and jumping to 1m (3ft 3)

Open: dressage at upper Novice level and jumping to 1.10 (3ft 6)

We can usually enter a couple of teams for each event so there are plenty of opportunities to have a go. For any club member considering affiliated eventing, a season on the team provides the support and encouragement sometimes required to make the next step. For those more nervous riders or novice horses, the team spirit of the competitions often helps with the nerves and we are always looking for new people.

This year the Riding Club introduced a new level of "Intermediate", because of this a lot of the more experienced novice team members have moved up a level and we are actively looking for more 2"9 partnerships to come into the Novice teams.

If you are interested in becoming part of the horse trials team please call or e-mail me with your details and suggestions.

Christine Tate Christine has been a member of TVRC for 3 years and has a chestnut mare, called Grace, whom she has owned since June 1997. Together they like to go on long rides and are just happy hackers.

Over the years they have had a lot of fun and have competed for the club in the Alfreds Tower Endurance ride.

Grace lives at Rosehill and enjoys the peaceful countryside views whilst chomping away on her rest days!

Emma Delport I currently have two horses, a semi retired Trakhener mare, Tia, and an Arab gelding, Jai. Tia now mainly does hacking and the odd sponsored ride due to arthritis, whereas Jai is a real riding club allrounder, having done dressage, SJ, XC, le trec and endurance since I bought him 3 years ago.

We are now making our very first attempts at BSJA classes and have jumped on a day ticket a couple of times, and planning to register properly next summer if all goes to plan!

We all live just outside Henley, along with Kaiber the Rottweiler!
